Electroless Nickel Plating

Electroless Nickel Plating

Electroless nickel plating improves corrosion resistance, hardness, wear resistance, and provides solderability by incorporating phosphorus or boron into the plating film.

Electroless nickel plating has two main types: nickel-phosphorus plating and nickel-boron plating. Nickel–phosphorus plating can be further classified into three types: low phosphorus, medium phosphorus, and high phosphorus, each with different characteristics.

We will recommend the best type to match our customer’s requested functions.

Special Features

Application of Special Properties

We can enhance corrosion resistance, hardness, wear resistance, and solderability, among others.

Performance comparison table of Electroless nickel plating

Improved Corrosion Resistance

Electroless nickel–phosphorus plating improves corrosion resistance by incorporating phosphorus into the plating film to form an amorphous structure. It is ideal for improving corrosion resistance in steel and aluminum, making it suitable for applications like shafts and pistons.

Improved Hardness and Wear Resistance

Electroless nickel plating is able to confer a hardness of about 500Hv. Furthermore, crystallization through heat treatment at 300-400 ℃ makes it possible to increase to 1000Hv. Wear resistance is improved as a result.

Potential for Solderability

Electroless nickel plating is able to confer solderability. Electroless nickel–boron plating, which is low-phosphorus and does not easily form passive films, tend to have excellent solderability.
